The building’s white stucco facade balances out the bright sunlight along the main pedestrian plaza. Several large, irregularly placed, clear glass windows press inward at an angle to accentuate the mass and depth of the building. The entry has a beveled black steel frame that draws clients into the store. Inside, a low-lying gallery of gray wave stone floors and white hand-plastered walls is lined with the house’s new handbags, including the 11.12, interpreted in different ways each season, such as metallized gold or silver.

This week, the AD team is in sunny Florida to report from the ground at Miami Art and Design Week. Get your bearings in our preview article and be sure to catch up on all the happenings from day 1 and day 2. The Design District has long pursued Chanel, which has just one other South Florida store at the rival Bal Harbour Shops, a high-end open-air shopping center in the midst of a major expansion. TRD previously reported the store’s location across from Gucci at the entrance to Paradise Plaza on 41st Street in Miami. It’s no secret that Chanel’s Design District boutique has been under construction, and this Art Basel marked its highly anticipated opening. All products featured on Architectural Digest are independently selected by our editors.

We’re creation-led and we’re hyperfocused on the quality of the client experience. To be growing faster than the other absolutely luxury brands while we’re the only ones not to offer open access e-commerce, means at the same time, we’re increasing our exclusivity advantage and raising the image of the brand,” he said. The luxury French fashion company is spending more than $4,000 per square foot on the buildout of its flagship store in the Miami Design District, sources told The Real Deal. Based on its roughly 10,000-square-foot space, that means Chanel is investing at least $40 million into the construction. Hublot, Louis Vuitton, and Dior all feature among Peter Marino’s illustrious clients, but it’s his long-time partnership with Chanel that shapes much of his extensive fashion-oriented portfolio. (The architect has more than 200 Chanel projects under his belt.) The Architecture of Chanel, Marino’s oversized, richly illustrated new book with Phaidon, highlights 16 of the buildings born out of this alliance, from New York to Tokyo.

On the second floor, accessed by an imposing 40-foot white staircase open to the atrium below, shoes and Ready-to-Wear are showcased in dedicated salons. Optic white and glossy black ankle boots and metallic strass pumps join the shoe selection between Black Belt Collection Parallelo light fixtures by Peter Marino for Venini and a Fran Taubman Aluminum Plate Coffee table. Racks holding pink bouclé suiting edged in wide black braid trim and crochet minidresses surround a Suduca & Merillou wood and rattan coffee table and two gleaming metallic Bent Half Tube Chairs by Voukenas Petrides in the Ready-to-Wear salon. An upholstered Cosmos lounge chair by Augusto Bozzi can be found in the first changing room underneath ‘TBT’, a drawing by Jan-Ole Schiemann.

This ground-up, multiple-level project included extensive core and shell work as well as two-floor interior fit outs that were inclusive of an elevator, central staircase and dumbwaiter. The most challenging part of this build was the impressive 30-foot tall central atrium capped by a 120-square-foot skylight. The construction of the skylight required DCC to sequence in no less than 15 subcontractors as the feature was shored and cut, walls completed, and a massive scaffolding was erected at the atrium opening.

This remarkable project not only strengthens their longstanding relationship with Chanel but also solidifies DCC’s reputation as leaders in the fusion of design and construction. The new Chanel boutique in Miami is modern and edgier, as Miami owns a more youthful arty clientele. Peter Marino built a complete new building for this exceptional Chanel boutique. With more than 200 Chanel stores on his creation list, Peter Marino celebrates Miami, the American art Capital with this new boutique. It is a massive two story cube with white stucco facade and large clear cubic windows with a large volume inside inviting guests to an art gallery store. For Marino, the architectural and interior design hold the same significance in building out the boutique as a celebration of Chanel for an American art capital.

Ahead, Marino speaks with BAZAAR.com about his latest project in South Florida, as well as his long-standing relationship with Chanel, integrating art into his spaces, and how he wants customers to feel. On another note, the iconic J12 Caliber 12.1 Watch, the Coco Crush and Camelia Collections are presented on sleek shelves within embedded niches among the 11.12 famed handbag. Above, an 8 feet length artwork of New York artist Peter Dayton called “Black Stella” made of acrylic and resin recalls Chanel’s lines of quilted leather. On the second floor, the shoes and ready-to-wear are presented in dedicated salons. White and glossy black ankle boots, metallic strass pumps join the Black Belt Collection Parallelo light fixture by Peter Marino for Venini and a Fran Taubman Aluminum plate coffee table. The new Miami Design District Chanel Boutique is definitely a much needed art shopping destination.

Welcome to Miami: Chanel Officially Opens Its Boutique In The Design District

Envisioning the boutique as a celebration of CHANEL for an American art capital, Peter Marino’s design is an art piece in its own right. The two-story building’s white stucco façade tempers the bright sunlight along the main pedestrian plaza. Several large, irregularly placed, clear glass windows press inward at an angle to accentuate the mass and depth of the building, and provide an abstract tactility, revealing an interior that is a warm, light-filled oasis. The good news is our growth, which is well ahead of the market versus 2019, is being achieved through healthy fundamentals which build the brand for the long term.

Next year they will open at The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas and have a massive project underway with new real estate to build a new flagship in Beverly Hills. Few companies allow one architect to build 12 buildings in 12 years like I have for Chanel, and that's why I wanted to record it with a book—a book still remains the best way to record a body of work. To be honest, who knows how long anything lasts—and especially retail architecture never lasts that long.

It is “all about design and image” and the race to become the next “masterpiece” in the design-driven neighborhood, he said. Designed by visionary New York architect Peter Marino who has worked with Chanel for  25 years, the new building in Miami embodies Chanel aesthetics, architecture and interior design and blends the strong values of the French house harmoniously. “Installations with ropes and ropes of pearls give the space a residential-mixed-with-haute-museum atmosphere,” Marino says. They also have discovered through this shared database that they have elite customers they didn’t know about because their purchases were siloed in different data buckets.

Chanel has commemorated the fragrance’s centennial with a new high jewelry collection, a limited-edition product range and a party in New York’s Rockefeller Center. A No.5 light show via drone technology over Miami’s Faena beach took place Wednesday night and is slated for Santa Monica, Calif., on Dec. 9. Last Tuesday,  the brand’s Es Devlin-designed installation, “Five Echoes” — which combines themes of sustainability with motifs of Gabrielle Chanel’s own life opened to the public through Dec. 21. The second floor is stocked with shoes and ready-to-wear pieces from Viard’s spring-summer 2023 collection. Located on Oak Street in Chicago, this Chanel boutique spans two stories and over 10,000 sqft – much larger than the previous location at Michigan Avenue.

Located in the heart of the district at 155 NE 41st Street, the new boutique feeds off the area’s mix of design and culture. The store aims to be an art piece in its own right — a pure, cool, cube outside and a warm light-filled oasis inside. The two-floor, 7,600-square foot boutique showcases the house’s ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, eyewear, fine jewelry and watches. A few stone steps lead into a 30-foot tall central atrium topped by a 120-square-foot skylight. The white double-height space provides light and energy and creates a central court inspired by gatherings at Miami’s annual Art Basel. Dickinson Cameron Construction (DCC) to have completed this monumental project, the largest Chanel store in the United States, located on the iconic Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Spanning an impressive 50,000 square feet, this ground-up endeavor showcases DCC’s expertise in luxury retail construction. Led by Project Executive Frank Naliboff, the dedicated team at DCC meticulously crafted every detail, ensuring the store’s flawless execution. From the captivating design features, including the breathtaking “Golden Lasso” suspended in the main atrium, to their commitment to sustainability with a LEED Platinum certification pursuit, DCC has truly delivered a masterpiece.

Dickinson Cameron is the General Contractor who has completed the LEED Certified Chanel Miami Design Districts’ location. DCC’s scope included extensive core & shell work to build the exterior walls and create the large atrium opening. The fit-out for two floors included an elevator, dumbwaiter, and central staircase.
