Norwegian Prima Cruise Ship Norwegian Prima Deck Plans Norwegian Cruise Line

norwegian cruise lines newest ship

While Breakaway Plus Class ships can hold around 4,000 passengers, based on double occupancy, the line's oldest vessels are only designed to carry about 2,000 passengers at double occupancy. In many cases, Norwegian Cruise Line's oldest cruise ships — built in the 1990s and early 2000s — are just half the size of the line's newest vessels and have fewer venues on board. Still, even these smaller ships offer many attractions compared to some vessels at competing lines. Norwegian Cruise Line boasts an array of ships within its fleet, including some of the most innovative and family-friendly cruise ships on the oceans today. "With her stunning design and unique offerings, Norwegian Prima is in a league of her own," Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., said in a statement. "As the industry’s most spacious new cruise ship featuring 'only-available-on-Prima-experiences,' she is continuing NCL's legacy of industry firsts."

Infinity Beach

The ship was built in Marghera, Italy by shipbuilder Fincantieri and features striking hull artwork by Italian graffiti artist Manuel Di Rita (known commonly as Peeta). In addition to Lissoni, the architectural team included Rockwell Group, SMC Design, Tillberg Design of Sweden, YSA DESIGN and Miami-based Studio Dado. The reimagined design of Haven suites and public areas was overseen by noted Milanese architect and designer Piero Lissoni, who made sure that every public space afforded light-filled sea and destination views. Instead of an interior pool and courtyard area, the Haven Sundeck on Prima will boast an infinity pool overlooking the ship’s wake and a new outdoor spa with a glass-walled sauna and cold room. Although the ship was in the making for some time prior to the pandemic, one striking design element is the innovative use of exterior deck space, which will encourage guests to spend more time outdoors and come closer to the sea.

Norwegian Jewel

This signature French restaurant offers a romantic and elegant atmosphere. Specializing in whiskey, this location can be a great place to enjoy an after-dinner drink. Contemporary in atmosphere, this cocktail lounge offers specially crafted drinks. Along the Concourse, guests will be able to admire beautiful, interactive artwork and sculptures created by Alexander Krivosheiw. Nathan Diller is a consumer travel reporter for USA TODAY based in Nashville.

Beauty By Design & Afficionados

Then move to the top deck for incredible ocean views and a frozen beverage at Vibe Beach Club. Or toast to an incredible day with your favorite pint of craft beer at The District Brew House. You’ll find an option to suit any mood on board Norwegian Encore.

Here are the line’s cruise ships, from newest to oldest, as well as what you need to know about each ship class. While the cruise line is not necessarily historically known for its mega-ships, like Royal Caribbean might be these days, several Norwegian cruise ships are still ranked among the 30 largest in the world. Norwegian Prima will have a season of inaugural voyages over the next few months. The first departs on Sept. 3 from Amsterdam, cruising Northern Europe; ports of call include Berlin, Germany; Tallinn, Estonia; and Stockholm, Sweden. She'll then make the journey across the Atlantic to Galveston, Texas, where she'll sail an 11-day Caribbean itinerary in October. And finally, she'll spend most of the winter based in Miami and Orlando (Port Canaveral) to sail five-, seven-, and nine-day trips to the Caribbean.

The upscale Oceania Cruises will take delivery of two 1,450-guest ships in 2027 and 2029, and luxury line Regent Seven Seas Cruises will add two ships in 2026 and 2029, each accommodating 850 passengers. Norwegian Cruise Line will welcome four ships in 2030, 2032, 2034 and 2036, each with a capacity of close to 5,000 guests. Capture a breathtaking photo as you walk over water across Oceanwalk, our first glass bridge.

Serving a wide variety of culinary delights to please every palate, our complimentary dining options include three main dining rooms, a help-yourself buffet and a variety of casual cafés, grills and on-the-go choices. Plus, our Main Dining Rooms offer a menu that changes daily, Chef's Signature Dishes and carefully selected wine recommendations, guaranteeing a different culinary adventure with every visit. Norwegian Viva will boast eye-catching hull art designed by Italian graffiti and sculpture artist Manuel Di Rita, commonly known as “Peeta,” who also illustrated the exceptional hull design on Norwegian Prima. World-class architects who helped design Norwegian Prima including Rockwell Group, SMC Design and Miami-based Studio Dado, also have returned to influence the aesthetic of various restaurants, staterooms and public areas. Note that all Norwegian ships are regularly renovated and upgraded every few years, so even the oldest Norwegian cruise vessels have newer carpeting, updated furniture, modern decor in cabins and other updates.

With up to 35 percent more staff than any other new cruise ship in its category, the ship will also offer the highest staffing levels (one crew member per two guests). In an ambitious six-ship rollout, five additional ships in the same class are planned for launch, one each successive year through 2027. NCL just released details describing some of the enhancements guests can expect in terms of ship design, service and itineraries.

Though the maiden voyage of Norwegian Prima is still eight months away, Norwegian Cruise Line has seen such outstanding demand for her that it's already announced its next ship, Norwegian Viva. Built in 1998 for Star Cruises by Meyer Werft, Norwegian Spirit officially became a NCL vessel in 2004. Norwegian Spirit is one of the few NCL ships that do not fit into any particular Norwegian ship class. Built by Lloyd Werft in Germany, Norwegian Sun was the last Sun-class ship. She was launched in 2001 in a dual christening ceremony with sister ship Norwegian Star. The first Dawn-class ship, Norwegian Star, like Norwegian Dawn, was built for Star Cruises before being transferred over to NCL.

The Infinity Beach will be another area where guests can relax, sit back and enjoy ocean views. This area of the ships will feature an infinity pool, a first aboard Norwegian Cruise Line ships. The only ship in its class, Norwegian’s Pride of America is registered in Hawaii and offers week-long itineraries around the islands. The ship debuted in September of 2002 and can carry 2,500 passengers. Norwegian's oldest ships are a good choice for vacationers who want to try Norwegian but aren't eager to travel with huge crowds.

There is no shortage of onboard activities and amenities for guests to experience. The Prima Class ships will introduce a new look of modernity, elegance, and fun to the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet that is sure to excite potential passengers. Combined with fantastic itineraries, Norwegian Cruise Line is set to create an ultimate vacation destination with this new class of ships. Launched in October of 2006, Norwegian Pearl is the 3rd Jewel-class ship with the line. At 93,530 gross tons, Pearl has a double capacity of 2,394 guests.

The Dawn Class includes two ships, Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Star, and debuted in 2001. Norwegian Viva, Norwegian’s newest ship that debuted in August 2023, will also spend its summer transporting passengers to various cities along the Mediterranean with 9- to 11-day voyages. “From multiple detoxifying saunas to state-of-the-art pools to two-story waterfall, the experience on Norwegian Prima will awaken every sense,” states Norwegian Cruise Line about the spa onboard Norwegian Prima. The Norwegian Prima Class ships will be equipped with NCL’s classic Mandara Spa & Salon, as well as the Pulse Fitness Center, and the Spa Thermal Suite, and a Barber Shop. As the main buffet onboard, guests will be sure to find something that will satisfy their culinary cravings.

The first two Prima Class vessels, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, will feature cutting-edge alternative technologies, such as a NOx reduction system (SCR), that reduce the ship’s overall environmental impact. SCR catalysts filter out sulfur oxides up to 98% and nitrogen oxides up to 90%, ensuring the vessels meet Tier III NOx compliance. Finished with the finest touches, spacious suites with luxury accommodations. Raise the roof every night at our spectacular shows including The Choir Of Man, where you sing along to classic rock hits. Fulfill your current craving or expand your palate with the fantastic dining options on Norwegian Encore. Authentic al-dente Italian at Onda by Scarpetta will make you feel like you’re at a Tuscan trattoria.
